Schools are the heart of a community. They’re a place where connection, care, and belonging grow alongside learning. So when the Eaton Fire devastated the Aveson school campuses and displaced many students, staff, and alumni, it wasn’t just buildings that were lost…it was a central pillar of the community! Until Aveson Community Organization (ACO) stepped in.
Originally a parent-teacher group, ACO quickly evolved into a wildfire relief hub, leading a remarkable effort to help their community recover. Their support has ranged from direct aid to families to uplifting the voices and leadership of their youngest members.
Here’s what they’ve accomplished:
- 🏫 Raised nearly $130,000 to meet community-wide needs.
- 💛 Highlighted and helped amplify GoFundMe campaigns for 75+ families, raising over $2 million collectively.
- 🎭 Supported a Broadway Hits Fundraiser choreographed and organized by Aveson elementary and middle school students, bringing joy, connection, and tangible impact through the arts.
At the TDB Family Foundation, we were proud to support ACO through our LA Fire Relief micro-grants. Their work beautifully reflects three of our core pillars: Amplifying Voices of Youth, Pathways to Mental Health Resiliency, & Building Thriving Communities
This is what community leadership looks like: showing up, staying creative, and coming together when it matters most.
