In the wake of disaster, the journey back to “okay” is complicated. It doesn’t follow a straight path. It takes time, trust, and most importantly, it takes people who are willing to walk alongside you.

For families recovering from the Southern California Wildfires, It’s Bigger Than Us (IBTU) has been exactly that… The steady, compassionate company on the road to healing.

Founded by a group of community-minded changemakers, IBTU isn’t just focused on short-term aid. They’re in it for the long haul, helping survivors move from crisis to stability to true belonging. And that’s why our team was so inspired by their mission.

In the immediate aftermath, IBTU jumped into action. They delivered hygiene kits, food, and emergency shelter. But they didn’t stop there. They’ve stuck around to help families navigate housing and job placement, education options, and legal support. And now they’re doing the deeply human work of community rebuilding, connecting neighbors, cultivating support networks, and reminding survivors that recovery doesn’t have to happen alone.

That thoughtful, multi-layered approach is why we selected IBTU as one of our LA Fire Relief micro-grant recipients. Their mission beautifully reflects our Build Thriving Communities focus area, and is grounded in dignity, connection, and care.

We were honored to contribute $1,000 to support this essential work. Because kindness doesn’t stop at the first step…it keeps going.
