In the aftermath of the wildfires, one thing became clear to local teen Connor Branch: kids needed somewhere to simply be kids again. That insight sparked Play It Forward, a free basketball clinic designed to bring joy, connection, and kindness to young people in his community.

As one of our Kindness Grant recipients, Connor received a $1,000 micro-grant from the TDB Family Foundation to help bring his vision to life. With these funds, he’s launching a series of clinics for kids ages 7-11, led by teen volunteers, completely free to attend, and rooted in community spirit.

The clinics are about more than just drills and layups. They’re a space for healing, laughter, and leadership. Each one wraps with a “Play It Forward” huddle, where kids reflect on what kindness looks like in their own lives and how they can pass it on.

What stood out to our jury was the heart behind this idea. Connor didn’t just see a problem… he asked what he could do about it. He took something he loves and turned it into a tool for connection and care. His project hits so many of our values: Amplifying Voices of Youth, Building Thriving Communities, and creating meaningful moments of kindness through action.

At just 17, Connor is already showing what it means to be a changemaker. We’re proud to support him and Play It Forward, and we can’t wait to see it unfold!
